Hubert Kairuki Memorial University (HKMU) was founded in 1997 and was one of the first private institutions in Tanzania to be authorized in 2000. It has subsequently acquired local, regional, and worldwide recognition.
Prof Hubert C.M Kairuki and his wife Mrs Kokushubira Kairuki founded the university in response to the circumstances in Tanzania following independence in 1961, in which sickness, poverty, and illiteracy were deemed the country’s main foes.
HKMU University began as Mikocheni International University of Health Sciences (MIUHS), with the goal of meeting the training needs of health professionals in Tanzania and Sub-Saharan Africa.
Mikocheni International University was founded in 1998 with the intention of growing outside health sciences. Finally, in February 1999, the University’s name was changed to Hubert Kairuki Memorial University in honor of the late founder, Prof Hubert Kairuki.

Doctor Of Medicine (Md)
Applicants must have finished Form VI or its equivalent with three primary passes in Physics, Chemistry, and Biology with a minimum of 6 points, according per TCU criteria. a minimum grade of D in physics, biology, and chemistry
Equivalent admission criteria include a “B” average or a minimum GPA of 3.0 for a clinical medicine diploma, as well as a minimum “D” grade in each of the following subjects: O-Level subjects include English, Physics, Chemistry, Biology, and Mathematics.
Diploma In Nursing
Nursing Diploma Programme (NTA Level 4-6) Pre-Service is a program designed to accept students who have never before attended nursing school.
Candidates who have finished Form IV (ordinary level certificate of Secondary Education) or its equivalent with TWO Cs and ONE D in Biology, Chemistry, Physics, or Mathematics. Pass in English is an added advantage.
Certificate In Social Work Nta Level 4 And Nta Level 5
NTA Level 4 direct entry requirements: Certificate of Secondary Education with a minimum of FOUR PASSES, excluding Religious Studies, or National Vocational Award (NVA) level 3 (with a minimum of three passes in Certificate of Secondary Studies) (CSE).
NTA Level 5 direct entry requirements: Advanced Certificate of Secondary Education with at least one principal and subsidiary pass excluding religious subjects.
Equivalent entry requirements (NTA Level 5)
- Technician certificate in Social work related occupations
- NTA level 4 in Social work.
